How Pokemon Fusion Names Are Made (Charizard + Gengar = Charigar)
The rule behind Pokemon fusion names, how Infinite Fusion names fusions differently, naming accidents in over a million fusions, and naming tips.
Pokemon Fusion Pro Team
Our fusion names join the first half of the head's name with the second half of the body's name, so Charizard + Gengar becomes Charigar. We applied the rule to all 1,049,600 fusions of 2 different Pokemon and found 844,363 unique names. Here is how the rule works, where it breaks, and how Pokemon Infinite Fusion names fusions differently.
The Naming Rule
The name is the head's first half plus the body's second half. There are 4 steps:
- Clean both names: remove symbols, so "Mr. Mime" keeps its letters and dot, and ♀ or ♂ signs are dropped.
- Take the head's first half, rounding up: Charizard has 9 letters, so the first 5 letters, "Chari".
- Take the body's second half, from the middle letter: Gengar gives "gar".
- Join them: "Chari" + "gar" = Charigar.
A Pokemon fused with itself keeps its own name.
Examples
| Head + Body | Name |
|---|---|
| Charizard + Gengar | Charigar |
| Gengar + Charizard | Genizard |
| Pikachu + Eevee | Pikavee |
| Lucario + Zoroark | Lucaoark |
Swapping head and body always changes the name, because each Pokemon gives a different half.
How Pokemon Infinite Fusion Names Fusions
Pokemon Infinite Fusion does not split names in half; each Pokemon has a fixed head part and body part chosen by the developers. That is why the game's names are often smoother. For example, the game calls Charizard + Blastoise "Chartoise", while the half-and-half rule gives "Charitoise". Use our names for previews and fan art, and check the game's name in a community dex such as Infinite Dex or FusionDex.org.
Naming Accidents
156,152 names are shared by 2 or more different fusions. Pokemon with the same ending cause most of them. All Eeveelutions end in "eon", so Umbreon + Sylveon is "Umbrveon". Some fusion names even match a real Pokemon:
- Nidoran♀ + Seaking = Nidoking
- Golbat + Psyduck = Golduck
- Venonat + Frosmoth = Venomoth
- Tentacool + Toedscruel = Tentacruel
- Golem + Zubat = Golbat
Longest and Shortest Names
- Longest: Fletchinder + Crabominable = Fletchinable (12 characters).
- Shortest: Abra + Seel = Abel (4 characters).
Tips for Naming Your Own Fusion
- Split at a syllable, not a letter: "Char" + "gar" reads better than an odd split.
- Keep a recognizable part of both names so people can guess the parents.
- Say it out loud. Drop a repeated letter if the name is hard to say.
- Avoid real Pokemon names to keep your fusion easy to search.
- For fan art, write the parents next to the name, head first.
