What Is Pokemon Infinite Fusion?

Pokemon Infinite Fusion is a free fan-made Pokemon game for Windows in which you can fuse almost any two Pokemon into a new one. You travel through Kanto and Johto, catch Pokemon, and use DNA Splicers to combine them. Each fusion gets a mixed sprite, its own types and stats, and the moves and abilities of both Pokemon.

The game is not made or endorsed by Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokemon Company. It is built by a fan developer and a large community of sprite artists, and it is based on Japeal's Pokemon Fusion Generator.

How Fusion Works in Pokemon Infinite Fusion

You fuse two Pokemon with a DNA Splicer and choose which one is the head and which one is the body. DNA Splicers are sold in Poke Marts, and fusing works from the bag, the PC or, since version 6.6, the party screen. There are 5 fusion rules:

  1. The head gives the face, the colors and Type 1.
  2. The body gives the shape and Type 2. If it would repeat the head's type, the body gives its other type. Normal/Flying Pokemon only give Flying.
  3. Stats are weighted 2:1. The head leads HP, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def; the body leads Attack, Defense and Speed.
  4. Moves and abilities come from both Pokemon. You pick 1 ability and 1 nature when you fuse.
  5. Fusions can be undone. Use a DNA Splicer again to unfuse, or a DNA Reverser to swap head and body.

Example: Gengar (head) + Charizard (body) is Genizard, Ghost/Flying with 519 BST. The other order, Charigar, is Fire/Poison with 512 BST. Try any pair in the Infinite Fusion Calculator.

Story, Regions and Gyms

The story starts when Silph Co. begins selling an item that can fuse any two Pokemon, and Team Rocket plans to misuse the technology. The main game follows the route of Pokemon Red and Blue, with new areas, quests and puzzles:

  • 16 Gym badges from the Kanto and Johto Gym Leaders.
  • Elite Four and Champion, with rematches in 5 difficulty tiers since version 6.7.
  • Post-game in Johto and the Sevii Islands, with legendary Pokemon, rematches and a final battle on Mt. Silver.
  • Side quests from NPCs, a simulated Wonder Trade, a Battle Factory and character customization with hats and outfits.

See every route and town in the Infinite Fusion map guide.

Game Modes

Pokemon Infinite Fusion has 4 main game modes and several challenge options.

ModeWhat changes
ClassicThe standard story with fixed trainers
RemixTrainers use different, remixed teams
RandomizerThe Pokemon you meet are randomized, so every run is different
Legendary modeUnlocked with New Game+; every trainer Pokemon is fused with a legendary, and you start with legendary eggs

Options such as level caps and Reversed mode, which swaps the head and body of trainer fusions, make any mode harder.

Differences From the Official Pokemon Games

Infinite Fusion uses Generation 5 battle mechanics with Generation 7 movesets. There are 4 other big differences:

  • No trade evolutions: Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler and Haunter evolve at level 40 or with a Linking Cord.
  • Friendship evolutions use levels or stones: Eevee evolves into Espeon with a Sun Stone and into Umbreon with a Moon Stone.
  • Teleport works like Fly outside battle, taking you to any Pokemon Center you have visited.
  • The Fairy type is included and works as in the modern games.

Custom Sprites

About 55% of all fusions have a hand-drawn custom sprite made by community artists. The other fusions use an auto-generated sprite. New sprites arrive in a sprite pack every month, and the game lets you choose between alternative sprites. Learn how to find them in the Custom Sprite Finder.

How to Download and Play
