What Is a Pokemon Merger?
A Pokemon merger is a tool that merges two Pokemon into one and calculates the merged base stats. The merger shows the merged sprite, name, types and abilities, and it shows how each of the 6 stats was merged: HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def and Speed.
This merger covers all 1,025 Pokemon from Generation 1 to Generation 9. It uses the stat formula of the Pokemon Infinite Fusion fan game, so merged stats match the game for Pokemon in its dex. The formula is shown next to every stat, so you can check each number yourself.
How to Merge Two Pokemon
To merge two Pokemon, pick the head, pick the body and press Merge Pokemon. There are 4 steps:
- Pick the head Pokemon. The head leads HP, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def.
- Pick the body Pokemon. The body leads Attack, Defense and Speed.
- Press Merge Pokemon. The merged stats appear with a bar for each stat and the BST total.
- Read the formula column. Each stat line shows the exact calculation used for the merge.
How Merged Stats Are Calculated
Merged stats are calculated with a 2:1 weighted average, rounded down. The dominant Pokemon counts twice and the other Pokemon counts once.
The Merge Formula
| Stat | Dominant Pokemon | Merge formula |
|---|---|---|
| HP | Head | (2 × Head + Body) ÷ 3 |
| Attack | Body | (2 × Body + Head) ÷ 3 |
| Defense | Body | (2 × Body + Head) ÷ 3 |
| Sp. Atk | Head | (2 × Head + Body) ÷ 3 |
| Sp. Def | Head | (2 × Head + Body) ÷ 3 |
| Speed | Body | (2 × Body + Head) ÷ 3 |
Worked Example: Garchomp + Lucario
The merger opens with Garchomp (head) and Lucario (body). The merged Pokemon is Garcario, Dragon/Steel, with 554 BST:
| Stat | Garchomp Head | Lucario Body | Calculation | Garcario |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HP | 108 | 70 | (2 × 108 + 70) ÷ 3 | 95 |
| Attack | 130 | 110 | (2 × 110 + 130) ÷ 3 | 116 |
| Defense | 95 | 70 | (2 × 70 + 95) ÷ 3 | 78 |
| Sp. Atk | 80 | 115 | (2 × 80 + 115) ÷ 3 | 91 |
| Sp. Def | 85 | 70 | (2 × 85 + 70) ÷ 3 | 80 |
| Speed | 102 | 90 | (2 × 90 + 102) ÷ 3 | 94 |
| Total (BST) | 600 | 525 | 554 |
Why Rounding Down Matters
Every merged stat drops its decimals. Garchomp's 108 HP and Lucario's 70 HP give (2 × 108 + 70) ÷ 3 = 95.33, so the merged HP is 95. Across 6 stats, rounding can cost up to 4 points of BST.
Merge Formulas Compared
Fan merge tools use 2 main formulas: the Infinite Fusion 2:1 formula and a simple 50/50 average. Some sites use other weights, and a few give random stats. The table compares the 2 main formulas for Garchomp + Lucario:
| Stat | Infinite Fusion (2:1) | Simple average (1:1) |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 95 | 89 |
| Attack | 116 | 120 |
| Defense | 78 | 82 |
| Sp. Atk | 91 | 97 |
| Sp. Def | 80 | 77 |
| Speed | 94 | 96 |
| BST | 554 | 561 |
The simple average gives the same result in both orders. The 2:1 formula rewards putting each Pokemon in the slot that matches its best stats, and it is the formula used by Pokemon Infinite Fusion.
Merge Order Changes the Stats
Yes, swapping head and body changes every merged stat. The same two Pokemon can differ by more than 30 BST:
| Merge | Result | Type | Best stat | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alakazam + Machamp | Alakhamp | Psychic/Fighting | Sp. Atk 111 | 515 |
| Machamp + Alakazam | Machazam | Fighting/Psychic | Speed 98 | 484 |
| Garchomp + Lucario | Garcario | Dragon/Steel | Attack 116 | 554 |
| Lucario + Garchomp | Lucahomp | Fighting/Ground | Attack 123 | 567 |
Alakazam has high Sp. Atk and Machamp has high Attack, so Alakhamp keeps both and reaches 515 BST. Machazam puts each parent in its weaker slot and drops to 484 BST, a loss of 31 points.
Merges That Beat Both Parents
A merge beats both parents when each parent leads the stats it is best at. Out of all 1,050,625 merges, 50,398 have a higher BST than both parents. Pokemon with lopsided stats give the biggest gains:
- Blissey + Kartana = Blistana: 663 BST, 93 more than the stronger parent. This is the biggest gain of any merge.
- Blissey + Regieleki = Bliseleki: 642 BST, more than Blissey (540) and Regieleki (580). It merges 196 HP with 151 Speed.
- Guzzlord + Kartana = Guzztana: 643 BST from two parents with 570 each.
- Blissey + Gyarados = Blisados: 608 BST from two parents with 540 each, with 86 Attack.
Lopsided merges have weak stats too: Shucjask has only 33 HP and is 4× weak to Rock. Check the full stat line before you use a merge in battle.
Merged Types and Abilities
The merged Pokemon takes Type 1 from the head and Type 2 from the body. Lucario (Fighting/Steel) + Garchomp (Dragon/Ground) merges into Fighting/Ground, immune to Electric. The merger lists one ability from each parent and a hidden ability, for example Sand Veil, Inner Focus, Rough Skin / Justified for Garcario. Use the Fusion Type Calculator for a full weakness chart.
The Pokemon Merge Glitch
The Pokemon merge glitch is a bug in the Generation 1 and 2 games, not a merge feature. Depositing certain glitch Pokemon into PC storage in a set order mixes data between two Pokemon and creates an unstable hybrid. The glitch can damage a save file. To merge Pokemon safely, use a merger tool or the fan game Pokemon Infinite Fusion.
Tips for Merging Pokemon
There are 5 tips for stronger merges:
- Put special attackers in the head slot. The head leads Sp. Atk.
- Put physical attackers and fast Pokemon in the body slot. The body leads Attack and Speed.
- Pair opposite stat lines. High-HP heads with fast bodies give the biggest BST gains.
- Merge both ways. Compare the BST of both orders before you decide.
- Check 4× weaknesses. A high BST does not help if the merged typing loses to common attacks.
