How to Build a Balanced Fusion Team (6 Steps + Sample Team)
A 6-step method to build a team of 6 Pokemon fusions with few shared weaknesses and balanced roles, plus a computed Kanto sample team.
Pokemon Fusion Pro Team
A balanced fusion team has 6 fusions with no type that hits 3 or more of them super-effectively, at least 1 resistance to most attacking types, and a mix of physical and special attackers. This guide shows a 6-step method, and a sample team of Kanto Pokemon built by checking every Generation 1 fusion with 480+ BST.
Step 1: Pick a Core of 2 Fusions
Start with 2 fusions whose weaknesses the other one resists. For example, a Fire fusion is weak to Water, so pair it with a Grass or Water fusion. Open both in the Team Builder before you add more.
Step 2: Read the Coverage Chart
The Team Builder's chart counts, for each of the 18 attacking types, how many members are weak, resistant or immune. Look for 2 problems:
- Red rows: 3 or more members are weak to that type.
- Empty rows: no member resists or is immune to that type.
Step 3: Patch the Holes With the Body
Fix a weakness by changing the body, because the body decides Type 2. Keep the head you like for its colors, Sp. Atk and Type 1, and try bodies with a second type that resists the problem type. A body with 1 type gives that type. Use the type filter in the Infinite Fusion Dex to list every partner that makes the typing you need.
Step 4: Balance Roles
A good team has at least 2 physical attackers, 2 special attackers and 1 bulky member. Put high-Attack Pokemon in the body and high-Sp. Atk Pokemon in the head, since each slot leads those stats. Check exact numbers in the Fusion Stat Calculator.
Step 5: Check 4× Weaknesses
Avoid more than 1 member with a 4× weakness. A 4× weakness lets one hit knock out the fusion. If a fusion has one, try the inverted order: swapping head and body changes both types.
Step 6: Stress-Test Against the Next Gym
Check your team against the type of the next Gym or rival. In Pokemon Infinite Fusion you can only use as many Pokemon as the Gym Leader has, so bring your best answers to that type and leave weak matchups in the PC.
A Sample Kanto Fusion Team
This team uses 12 different Generation 1 Pokemon and no legendaries, so every member can be caught in Kanto. It was chosen by a search that adds one fusion at a time, keeping shared weaknesses as low as possible:
| Slot | Head + Body | Fusion | Types | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Snorlax + Magneton | Snoreton | Normal/Steel | 519 |
| 2 | Dragonite + Clefable | Dragoable | Dragon/Fairy | 523 |
| 3 | Vaporeon + Gyarados | Vapoados | Water/Flying | 559 |
| 4 | Lapras + Golem | Laplem | Water/Ground | 544 |
| 5 | Chansey + Starmie | Chanrmie | Normal/Psychic | 542 |
| 6 | Exeggutor + Cloyster | Exeggster | Grass/Ice | 564 |
No attacking type hits more than 2 members of this team. Every attacking type is resisted or blocked by at least 1 member. 2 members have more Attack than Sp. Atk, and 4 lean special.
Nuzlocke Tips for Fusion Teams
- Keep a backup for each role in the PC, because a lost fusion takes 2 Pokemon with it.
- Unfuse to adapt. A DNA Splicer can split a fusion, so you can rebuild after a loss.
- Turn on level caps in the game's options for a fair challenge.
- Watch Wonder Guard: some trainers use fusions that only super-effective moves can hit, so carry varied move types.
