How Pokemon Fusion Stats Are Calculated (Head vs Body Formula)

The exact Infinite Fusion formulas for fused stats, types and abilities, why order changes BST, when a fusion beats both parents, and worked examples.

How Pokemon Fusion Stats Are Calculated (Head vs Body Formula)

Each fused stat is (2 × dominant parent + other parent) ÷ 3, rounded down; the head dominates HP, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def, and the body dominates Attack, Defense and Speed. This is the Pokemon Infinite Fusion formula, used by every calculator on this site. Below are the exact rules for stats, types and abilities, with worked examples.

Which Stats the Head and Body Control

StatDominant parentFormula
HPHead(2 × head + body) ÷ 3
AttackBody(2 × body + head) ÷ 3
DefenseBody(2 × body + head) ÷ 3
Sp. AtkHead(2 × head + body) ÷ 3
Sp. DefHead(2 × head + body) ÷ 3
SpeedBody(2 × body + head) ÷ 3

Every result is rounded down to a whole number.

Worked Example: Charizard + Blastoise

Charizard (head) + Blastoise (body) = Charitoise, Fire/Water with 530 BST. Each line shows the math:

StatCharizard HeadBlastoise BodyCalculationCharitoise
HP7879(2 × 78 + 79) ÷ 378
Attack8483(2 × 83 + 84) ÷ 383
Defense78100(2 × 100 + 78) ÷ 392
Sp. Atk10985(2 × 109 + 85) ÷ 3101
Sp. Def85105(2 × 85 + 105) ÷ 391
Speed10078(2 × 78 + 100) ÷ 385
Total (BST)534530530

The other order, Blastizard, has 529 BST and is Water/Flying.

Why Fusion Order Changes the BST

Swapping head and body changes the BST by about one third of the difference in "head score" between the 2 Pokemon. Head score is HP + Sp. Atk + Sp. Def − Attack − Defense − Speed. The Pokemon with the higher head score should be the head.

Example: Vaporeon and Jolteon both have 525 BST. Vaporeon + Jolteon = Vapoteon has 546 BST, while Jolteon + Vaporeon = Joltreon has 502.

StatVaporeon HeadJolteon BodyCalculationVapoteon
HP13065(2 × 130 + 65) ÷ 3108
Attack6565(2 × 65 + 65) ÷ 365
Defense6060(2 × 60 + 60) ÷ 360
Sp. Atk110110(2 × 110 + 110) ÷ 3110
Sp. Def9595(2 × 95 + 95) ÷ 395
Speed65130(2 × 130 + 65) ÷ 3108
Total (BST)525525546

Can a Fusion Beat Both Parents?

Yes, when each parent leads the stats it is best at. Vapoteon beats both 525-BST parents by 21. Most fusions land near the average of the 2 parents instead; Charizard + Blastoise averages 532 and the fusion has 530. Rounding down costs up to 4 BST in total. See more examples in the Pokemon Merger.

How Fusion Types Are Calculated

Type 1 is the head's first type, and Type 2 is the body's second type, or its only type. There are 2 exceptions:

  • No repeats: if the body would give the same type as the head, it gives its other type. Grimer + Oddish is Poison/Grass, not pure Poison. Zubat + Grimer is Poison, because Grimer has only 1 type.
  • Normal/Flying: these Pokemon pass on only Flying. Pidgeot + Charizard is Flying/Fire.

Check the result in the Fusion Type Calculator.

How Fusion Abilities Work

In Pokemon Infinite Fusion you choose the fusion's ability from the abilities of both Pokemon. Our calculators list the head's first ability, the body's ability and both hidden abilities. Charitoise lists Blaze, Torrent and Solar Power / Rain Dish.

Base Stats vs Real Stats

The formula gives base stats; the numbers in battle also depend on level, IVs, EVs and nature. The game uses the standard formula from Generation 3 onward. Some Pokemon got base stat changes in Generation 6 and later, so the game's values for those Pokemon can differ by a few points from the newest official stats. Convert base stats to level 50 and 100 stats in the Fusion Stat Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the fusion stat formula a simple average?

No. Each stat counts the dominant parent twice and the other parent once. A simple average would give both parents equal weight.

Does fusion order matter?

Yes. Order changes the types and up to a third of the head score difference in BST.

Do triple fusions use the same formula?

No. Our Triple Fusion Calculator averages all 3 parents, and the game's own triple fusions have fixed stats. See Triple Fusions Explained.
